Los Angeles Auto Show – Keeping pace in the automotive world with safety and style is electrifying!
The Los Angeles Auto Show has been providing Southern California with one of the most influential and best-attended auto shows since 1907. This year to kick off the auto show season, more than 65 debut vehicles, including 25 global reveals, graced downtown LA with over 30% of those being hybrid or electric vehicles. It is finally an industry common to see electric drivetrain power in some form integrated into almost every manufacturer’s exhibit of vehicles. Beverly Coachcraft was excited to attend Media Days to hear and see firsthand what the manufacturers are providing the future of mobility.
Electric now has a Mercedes
Mercedes-Benz made a big splash on media day with several announcements and reveals. Nicholas Speeks, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, spoke to the heritage and future of the brand while introducing the Vision Mercedes Simplex, a concept calling back to the legendary Mercedes 35 PS race car which was engineered for the 1901 Race Week in France. Speeks then went on to say “We live in a complex world, but it should not be a polarizing world”. This led to the reveal of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC, the first member of the fully electric Mercedes EQ family. Delivering 402 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels, the dual motors will launch the EQC from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The next generation of Mercedes-Benz is here.
Mercedes-Benz continued on to present us with the World Premier of the AMG GLE 63 S and the AMG GLS 63. Technologically advanced to over 600 horsepower of grocery-getting and soccer practice delivering experiences, all in the comfort of a plush interior you can relax and feel safe in. AMG continues to impress us all, needed or not.
A diverse collection of crowd favorites, including long-awaited US arrivals
Several other vehicles caught our attention which included the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which is the most powerful and fastest Mustang of all time, with 760 horsepower from its supercharged V8. The Motor Trend Car of the Year, the 2020 Chevrolet C8 Corvette, was also displayed in a stunning Rapid Blue exterior, as well as the highly publicized Toyota Supra, including a GR Heritage Edition which paid homage to the previous generation MKIV Supra from the late ’90s. KARMA Automotive impressed all with the beautiful SC1 Vision Concept, a reflection of their environment and ambition, and tease of what is to come in the future. From the Germans, the Audi RS6 Avant has also finally arrived stateside, as well as the new BMW M2 CS.
